Bro. John E. Raines is the pastor of Good Hope Baptist Church. He was born and raised in Timpson where he grew up attending Timpson Missionary Baptist Church. He accepted Christ as his savior during a summer revival and later surrendered to ministry in 2001. In preparation for ministry Bro. John obtained an Advanced Diploma of Biblical Studies from Faith Bible Institute and a Bachelor of English Bible from Heritage Baptist Institute. He has been involved in ministry in various capacities for more than fifteen years.
Bro. John has been married for more than 30 years to his high school sweetheart, Angela. Their family includes their son Sheldon and his wife Caylie, and their daughter Ashton. He graduated from Timpson High School in 1990 and then attended Stephen F. Austin State University, where he graduated in 1995 with a B.S. in Physics. Bro. John has a diverse background from teaching math and science in both public and private schools as well as working in the aerospace industry. In addition to his B.S., he also obtained his M.B.A. from LeTourneau University in 2007.
He and his family recently moved back to the Timpson area where he now serves as our bi-vocational pastor. In addition to enjoying teaching from God’s word, he likes to spend time outside and, in general, staying busy.
